Anti-Trump celebs’ brutal responses

Scores of celebrities took to Twitter during the fiery event, which was labelled a “s**tshow” by actress Kirstie Alley and CNN’s Dana Bash.

While Alley has previously expressed support for Donald Trump and disdain for Joe Biden, the debate left her divided.

“Don’t either of you take a bow.. it was idiotic and embarrassing,” she tweeted.

She said she had learned nothing from either side in the debate, labelling it a “total waste of time” and the “dumbest debate in history”.

THIS IS A SHIT SHOW.. I thought this would be great and it’s stupid.. I’ve changed my mind.. I’m voting for this guy. He’s wonderful pic.twitter.com/sHNqlWRn6E— Kirstie Alley (@kirstiealley) September 30, 2020

Vocal anti-Trump supporters, Hulk star Mark Ruffalo, singer Bette Midler, comedians Sarah Silverman and Rosie McDonnell, and actresses Kerry Washington, Alyssa Milano, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Emmy Rossum, weighed in with their thoughts on social media.

Silverman labelled Mr Trump “disrespectful” after he continually cut off Mr Biden.

The debate turned ugly when Mr Biden told Mr Trump to “shut up” because he kept pestering him to answer a question about the Supreme Court’s future.

Ruffalo said Mr Trump showed he had no leadership qualities.

“He has shown that all he can do is denigrate and lie,” he wrote on Twitter.

“You can’t debate insanity. We have a lot coming our way and we need a leader who can hold it together under pressure not blow his stack.”

What is clear, when you look at poise, decency, honesty, and respect one thing is clear. #BidenWon #Debates2020 #WithBidenWeCan— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) September 30, 2020

Milano unsurprisingly declared Biden had won.

“Nobody cares about these stale accusations (from Mr Trump), people want to know how they are going to put food on the table and stay healthy,” she wrote.

Well, Biden clearly won. This was just a showcase of how unhinged Trump is. #BidenWon— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) September 30, 2020

Trump’s Democratic rival from 2016 Hillary Clinton also weighed in with a cheeky response on Twitter during the debate.

Writer Jill Filipovic took to Twitter to say Mr Biden delivered the “line of the night”.

“I so feel for Hillary right now because I’m positive she wanted to say (shut up) and couldn’t,” she said.

“You have no idea,” Ms Clinton responded.

Midler - who has long been a critic of the President - labelled Mr Trump “utterly disgusting”.

Scandal actress Washington and Bring It On star Gabrielle Union joked they needed alcohol to get them through the debate, while Shameless actress Rossum said she had loaded up on carbohydrates for the event.

“There’s not enough wine in the whole wide world,” Washington said.

I started this debate with a white wine spritzer and now I need tequila. Lots of tequila. Doubles. Triples.
